I am cosidering purchasing a used L2500DT for grass cutting and snow removal with a rear mount snowblower. I am aware the L2500 does not have a live PTO. Does anyone have any experience snowblowing with this type uf setup? I am concerned that when I try to open a driveway that hasn't been cleared for a few weeks of snow the tractor will not be able clear the 4 to 5 foot high bank the snowplow leaves. And if the tractor starts to bog and the clutch is pushed in the snowblower stops working as well. Any thoughts?

Without live or independent pto the blower will stop when the tractor stops moving. This will in many instances plug the blower because it won't have a chance to clear the snow out of the fan. I would strongly recommend live or ,even better, independent PTO. ....

I have acquired a front mounted snowblower but have no front PTO on my tractor. I was thinking about mounting a hydraulic motor on the blower and running it that way. Any reason that this would not work OK? Has anyone had experience, advice on running a hydraulic pump as a hydraulic motor? ....

I have a friend that has a blower set up to run by hydraulic motor and is mounted on a Toro three wheel golf course mower with no problem, except the snow here is always wet and slushy. The mower puts out about 23HP and the blower is about five foot wide. I'm not sure about direction of rotation, but if the pump can be run either direction the you can drive it either direction, if not then drive it backwards. the torque against the shaft will be in the same direction and the pump will not know if it is driving or being driven.After talking to my friend about this he said that it seems that pumps are always smaller(pressure,)and motors biger(volume). My guess is that you would need to figure out the RPM needed on the blower and then the RPM given on the rear PTO and by volume of pump and then volume of motor figure the volume ratio that matches the RPM difference ratio. Should be a correlation like this if pump to motor volume = 1:1 then rpm = 1:1, if pump to motor volume = 2:1 then RPM = 1:2, and if pump to motor volume = 1:2 then RPM = 2:1. So in the first case the pump to motor rpm is the same (PTO to Blower RPM) , the second it slows the motor to half and the third it doubles the blower speed. I will bet that if you talk to the right hydraulic guy he will half a day discussing this with you. Good luck and remember this advise is free and worth just as much. ....

I HAD an L2500DT and tried using a 5' 3pt snow blower but with limited success. I say that because if the snow was light and under 1'-1.5' it has no problems, if you have it in low range. It really becomes unproductive when the conditions vary at all, like at the end of the drive with the heavy snow. In short I would not AT ALL recomend a 2 range reverse, manual trans without an idependant pto for snow blowing. With a small tractor you NEED at least an independant pto or even better, a hydro trans. BTW, the grass cutting will be no problem at all, with up to a 6' cutter, in WIDE OPEN AREAS. Please consider this before purchasing! Otherwise the L2500 is hard to beat for value. A solid, powerful tractor. ....

Thanks for the comments, Jon. I was hoping someone with experience with this tractor, like yourself, would respond. I think I will pass on the L2500 and look for a model with a live PTO. Thanks for the advice! ....
